M ROOF HOTEL & RESIDENCES - Neo Modernist Urban Abode

With 150 hotel rooms and 30 serviced residences in the centre of Ipoh Garden, the M Roof Hotel & Residences is another renown add-on to the locally owned hospitality brand M Boutique Hotels group. This time, the concept is a little different from their signature design flair. mylifestylenews writes.

Ipoh is a definite foodie destination yet does not seem to have many big brand hotels. At the corner of the bustling roundabout in the heart of Ipoh Garden and the infamous Sport Stadium precincts lay an gigantic highrise that standout from the rest of the quiet residentials. You need to look up to notice its signature external cladding, which is a giveaway for its location when you are nearing this property. It touts the phrase “deceptively minimalist”, but there are also design elements that are more than minimalist within the premise.

When you dock on the entrance driveway, a row of massive old trees partly shade the facade and the illuminated bright light bulbs lighting effect for the port cochere that is quite attractive especially in the evening, together with a couple of VIP’s valet parking reserved, adds a sense of glamour to your “Hollywood” theater scene arrival.

The lobby is not huge, with the bare design touches and elements to enliven the entire ambience. Large black hanging “medieval” motif chandelier lightings alongside with tree branches to create a rustic atmosphere. Black iron stools, high table tops set along one side of the lobby with large ceiling high windows attracting plentiful natural lights from the front and the back from the street level.

Another corner next to the reception area is well decorated with large sofas and day bedding style furniture, along with colorful plush cushions that offer a sense of hue to the little lounge section adorned with black iron roof structure motifs below the stairways leading to the next level of the huge ballroom which is popular for wedding events.

With a bright, stylish and airy decor all day dining restaurant adjacent to the lobby serving buffet breakfast, as well as a-la-carte menu, this cozy cafe offer one of the best lifestyle cafes in town to catch up with the latest gossip.

Our higher level 30sqm Deluxe Twin Room allowed us to have an elevated view of the city and the amenities are even bigger and breaking away from the usual M Boutique style hotels and a lot more guest rooms going up vertically, whereas the signature M Boutique hotels have never been more than three floors rolled out along the shop houses.

It is spacious and well thought through, with large twin beds, a comfy armchair and ottoman, a long desk fit-out providing a space to work and relax and spread yourself out, along with the television and a lower section closest to the entrance to store your bags/luggage.

The bathroom is not claustrophobic at all and even some big brands design hotels would not offer such free space. The M boutique hotel’s signature black and white tiling is front and centre, which is a bright and refreshing experience, plus an extremely large walk-in shower with a sliding glass door, which we love for its ease of use and freeing up space. Spot on! If dusting is done in a more appropriate way in the room especially above the bedhead board, lampshades and behind the TV, it would add a few more extra scores for the in room cleanliness.

For this larger format neo-classical minimalist design concept, they have included a decent-size infinity rooftop swimming pool and and a sky gym with panoramic views overlooking Ipoh’s scenic hilly limestone caves and beyond while you are burning off a few extra calories. Strings of lighting also feature on the rooftop which creates a more intimate ambience when the night falls and acts as a beacon from a distance.

Its current occupying spot was a disused bungalow then which had been sitting there for a couple of years and now there are the design hotel and residences, minimal yet practical and beg to differ from the artistic aspects with a soft opening on January 2017.

This contemporary urban abode shows the growth of the brand that is heading in a more elevated direction without losing its sense of fun and the quirky design elements that is now synonymous with the brand. Kudos to the team for creating such a welcoming and warm environment while ensuring the guest experience is more elevated, at least with more space and amenities.
