You might have thought having Vietnamese food in Bangkok is a NO-NO and not your priority of choice since Thailand has been known for its own one-of-a-kind cuisine and gastronomy around the globe and faithful to its tradition. Thien Duong in Dusit Thani Bangkok may make you think twice with an alternative option. mylifestylenews writes.
Street food in Thailand is the reality of life and is
everywhere and utterly delicious, so is the authentic Royal Thai cuisine that
capture many hearts of the locals and travelers alike, so who needs to cook at
home anyway. Plus, if you want more elevated food, there are hundreds of dining
options for the more exclusive and international experiences in this city that are
full of flavours. However, Vietnamese food may be a good alternative despite
many might have an idea that being in Bangkok, such a cuisine may not be at all
on their mind, until someone has the recommendation and knowing that such an
alternative option will refresh your palate by knowing its existence and with a
good reputation throughout the years. Hence, Thien Duong in Dusit Thani Bangkok
is one of our recent alternative finds in Bangkok that truly offer an explosion
of refined tastes in a peaceful and charming setting, this is a restaurant full
of original and captivating authentic flavours.
Thien Duong means “paradise” in Vietnamese, matching the
concept of the restaurant’s elegant surrounding with an Oriental Charm that
serves no muss and no fuss Vietnamese food at its best without any fusion
influence but true to its tradition. The warm entrance in Thien Duong decorated with a marble
top console stands two Vietnamese dolls wearing the conical hat and the
traditional áo dài dress. The French boudoir
mirrors above the console is the central piece of attraction flanked by two
long wood panel paintings with a crane in different movement on each side signifying
longevity and harmony.
Indeed, the moment we stepped into Thien Duong, the
orient charm flirts with the Chinoiserie motif adding the enchanting mood of a
glamorous and elegant dining atmosphere. Floor to ceiling windows draws natural
lights from the outdoor swimming pool area with tall plants offering a more
serene ambience. The orchids sit on the mini elephant ornaments on some oriental
teak cabinets stand soaring high contrasting the bamboo cushioned chairs and
the classy table setting with table cloth and napkin service. Simply elegant!
The menu features only authentic flavors of Vietnam.
Classic and superbly executed and the kitchen team aimed at getting the best
possible taste out of every Vietnamese ingredient to bring it to your table. While
no particular modern cooking technique is needed but genuinely true to its
heritage, not only showing the respect of the dishes presented but also
bringing its best flavor out from its tradition.
<Fresh
Spring Roll>
We
started off with some shrimp and chicken fresh spring roll which was cut into four
slices on each spring roll. Moist and meaty and a perfect mouth full with the
homemade dipping sauce.
<Fried
Sugar Cane Skewer Minced Shrimp>
The
star dish in Thien Doung and is a must order at all times. Meaty yet with a resilient
texture from the shrimp and well seasoned even without any dipping sauce. Can’t
miss out!
<Steamed Crab Claw>
This soup dish is to enjoy with its freshest taste. Rich thick broth with cut chili to give a kick on the dish and garnished with sweet basil leaves. It warms up the appetite easily.
<Deep-fried Whole Flounder Fish with Toasted Peanut Served with Lemon Grass
Sauce>
We
wanted to sample a fish dish. This “dancing fish” in presentation was fillet
and deep fried to its light crisps. Light and fluffy yet the careful selection
of products is equally important as the harmonic combination of all components
to a complete dish.
<Sweet Pomelo Salad with Pork and Shrimp>
A little watery and the pomelo was shredded into pieces instead of a chunky serve. Small shrimps are sliced into half and topped with crispy fried shallots. A rather sweet in taste on the palate.
<Rice
Noodles Soup with Beef>
Soft and tender slices of beef top the presentation of
this classic Vietnamese pho noodles soup. The clear broth is the soul of the
dish that is simply tantalizing the senses with exceptional interpretations of
iconic ingredients used.
Each recipe is the fruit of authentic Vietnamese cuisine, while each dish features quality fresh ingredients that enhances the classic Vietnamese flavors. There is always something that caters for every palate with the fantastic range of salivating dishes from salad, soup, stir-fried, deep-fried, hot and cold savories to the irresistible Vietnamese desserts. But we have no room for dessert after sampling all these signature dishes by the culinary team of Thien Doung. Service here is generally big hearted and in fact an emotional discovery. Interaction is always important, the manager knows how to look after the guests with great approach and sincere recommendation for everything you need to know about the Vietnamese specialties served in Thien Doung. Our short conversation with the manager flew comfortably, mainly about the authenticity of enjoying a good Vietnamese meal. Love your food sincerely, knowing what you eat and quality than quantity. Overall, a great night of classic Vietnamese food with a peaceful ambience and efficient, warm, friendly service in a very central location that you should make a bee line for on your culinary agenda when next in Bangkok.
