RADO “Designing Lightness Exhibition”

RADO staged a “Designing Lightness Exhibition” at Atrium II, Gateway Arcade, Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui recently to celebrate the grand opening of its new boutique in Harbour City. A kick-off ceremony was held on 15th July 2016, Celebrity model Ms. Denice Lam was also invited to grace the joyous occasion.

Taking inspiration from the lightness-inspired Rado timepieces, the exhibition showcased some innovative design pieces designed by renowned designers from different parts of the world, highlighting the interplay between Rado’s lightweight novelties and the vision of a lighter way of living.

The exhibition featured the design pieces from outstanding international and local designers, including the “Nuclei of Six Identical Elements” made of high-tech ceramic by renowned Swiss designer Mr. Max Bill, the “Origami” table by Mr. Anthony Dickens from the United Kingdom, “Kapow!” decoration by Ms. Tina Leung, “Paper Lamp” by Milk Design and the “Dent” light shade, in gold metallic or glossary white, by Mr. Chak from Hong Kong. Last but not least, “Canvas” designed by YOY, a Japan designer, is a 2-dimensional image with structured fabrics hidden within, making it a comfortable sofa.

Guests were invited to place a light touch on the translucent showcase by which activated the gas inside the showcase to marvelously vanish into thin air, and hence unveiled the new Rado True Open Heart collection.  A catwalk show was staged afterwards, featuring Ms. Denice Lam, demonstrating a selective piece from the Rado True Open Heart collection and the Rado Centrix Open Heart collection. Among all the superb design pieces, Rado is honoured to have invited Stickyline, a Hong Kong-based design house, to create agianst dandelion display for the exhibition. Mr. Soilworm Lai, designer of Stickyline, shared his design concept, followed by a demonstration on the making-of of an origami feather.

Public was invited to join the origami feather workshops to be held in small groups during the exhibition period. The paper feathers created by the public was displayed as part of the exhibition. True Open Heart Rado True Heart Collection is the latest timepieces of the lightness-inspired collection for this year. The pieces are available in matt black or polished white with high-tech ceramic. Under the ultrafine 0.6mm mother-of-pearl layer dial with stylised cutouts, the enigmatic mechanics within is subtly exposed. The razor-thin mother-of-pearl dial changes along the lighting conditions and emits shimmering colours from the True Open Heart with different angles of view. The high-tech ceramic is smooth, lightweighted and hypoallergenic, and it floats on the wrist with utmost comfort.

Rado Centrix Open Heart Inheriting the success of the Centrix Open Heart for gentlemen, Rado is proud to launch the ladies' Centrix Open Heart collection inspired by the Chinese Valentine's Day. The upside-down crescent-shaped dial of the ladies’ Centrix Open Heart leaves the bottom half of the timepiece’s mechanics completely exposed, revealing the intricate sunray guilloche pattern of the decorated Swiss movement below.

A stylized keyhole at noon further reveals the beating heart of the automatic movement. The unique shape of the dial was inspired by imagery of the romantic legend behind the Night of Sevens or the Magpie Festival: The stylized keyhole is the seventh moon under which the lovers meet, and the upside-down crescent is the bridge of magpies upon which they stand.
