Hermès unveiled its latest window display at the Landmark Prince's store recently by British artist and sculptor Alex Chinneck brought his iconic and ingenious designs entitled <Living Room> to the world of Hermès. This only Hermès store in Hong Kong where world-reknown artists were invited to curate new windows each season. With this season installation features a fantastical tale of imagined objects from Parisian Maison that are brought playfully to life in six extraordinary scenes, features a myriad of the House's icons burst forth from a single object in joyful effervescence.
The window of women's universe reveals a rocking horse sculpture atop which Chinneck has masterfully layered various mundane objects like books, clocks, and even an umbrella, resulting in magnificent towering sculpture that speaks to the visual language of the Maison's heritage. The artwork also accommodates a traditional bookshelf with a large gaping hole in the middle - turning the ordinary into the extraordinary.
Uniting the discipline of art, architecture, theatre, and engineering, Chinneck's surreal sculpture are interventions that animate the place in which they stand. With an understanding that all Hermès objects have a soul, the sculptor has given these everyday objects an unusual form - enabling them to move and interact with their environment in surprising ways and thus allowing their patrons to see them in a fresh light. Like all his work, the installation ignites curiosity and sparks interest in the minds of viewers, challenging their understanding of familiar objects around us. Despite the distinctive style of these windows, each vignette evokes the creative spirit of 24 Faubourg - a place where nothing is fixed and where the archives live and breath - expressing the trademark whimsically and humour shared between the artist and the Maison.
