The Capella Bangkok’s AURIGA Spa wellness aims to heal your mind, body and soul, by immersing you in traditional therapies and innovative treatments, complemented with the charming vibes of the Chao Phraya River. AURIGA Spa treatment experience is making such waves amongst the luxury hotels and many hotels can define a point of difference by their wellness offerings and this unique luxurious spa is no exception. The wellness centre occupies a large prime space on the riverside under the main lobby entrance and created a haven of oasis within itself, as you feel worlds away from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok and the Chao Phraya traffic.

Space is part of the luxury and there is plenty of it and more than what you can see. Tailored wellness is at the core of their signature spa sanctuary and while the fitout oozes luxury, the calming interior enclave is where your path of rejuvenation is mapped out in alignment with your individual needs. This is an urban retreat that delivers on its promise and has been beautifully designed to encompass so many treatment angles, so there is something for everyone, whether you just want to drift off into a state of heavenly being, or you want some serious muscle pain relief and go for that ultra-deep tissue work.

On arriving for our appointment, the spa hostess gave us a short brief of the AURIGA Spa wellness blends contemporary healing techniques with ancient Asian science for an invigorating experience – whether to rebalance, revitalise or even aesthetic rejuvenation. Our bodies were very weary after buzzing around Bangkok non-stop for over a week. While relaxing in this soulful setting we had decided to go for their signature massage and let our therapists bring an integrated approach to healing and re-energizing. As one would expect from such a luxury brand, the therapists draw on traditional, time-tested and cutting-edge contemporary practices of a luxury Spa in Bangkok, but we simply wanted the signature massage that has withstood the test of time.

Prior to starting our treatment, we were well informed to arrive earlier to enjoy the Vitality Area which are the wet areas located in each of the change rooms and this is a must, as it includes a high technology hydro water therapy facilities area split between a small pool with both strong pressure water massage from above and within the pool, an experience shower and a hot sauna.

The fitout of this area is not only luxuriously catering for all that you need but fantastic amenities that readily pamper your weary body and rejuvinate your soul, plus there is also a resting lounge with light snacks and refreshments adjacent internally after your treatment, as well as an outdoor relaxation lounge nestled in the verdant garden by the riverfront. So having enjoyed all of this to begin our relaxation, we were anticipating our signature massage.

We settled on the Ritual Relaxation which draws inspiration from local Thai-Indian rituals using signature aromatherapy oil blends to expertly guide you to a state of total relaxation. Many people think that choosing an aromatherapy oil is just going through the motions, but do not underestimate the power of these oils and how they can affect the senses in a very positive and enjoyable way that eventually penetrate into your skin and revitalize your body as part of the oil therapy treatment journey. An Absolute rejuvenation awaits.

With 7 treatment suites including two couple’s suites to delight your body senses, we were then escorted to our treatment suite and you soon realise you are cocooned in a soothing and dimly lit environment so that you can allow the body to succumb to the rituals about to be performed by the skilful therapists.

Our therapists were applying acupressure and long strokes across our energy lines, enhancing the blood circulation and removing blockages. As much as this was a relaxation ritual massage, you determine what strength pressure you want, as everyone has a different level of relaxation expectations, so when we asked our therapists to apply more pressure, it was done skilfully and they continued pursuing with the required pressure and checking from time to time of the comfort level that we were actually enjoying.

Our therapists were expert in their deployment of the ritual, had an unerring sense of finding the blockages and knew exactly when to apply more constant and deeper pressure without crossing the pain threshold. With minimal sounds, that constant flow of touch without creating a break and at the end we were all the better for it. At the tail end of the ritual, it is more relaxing, so they gradually bring you to that zen state to leave you completely rested and allowing your body to go into a state of momentary ‘slumber’. It was a fitting end in such a beautiful environment and we realised that time had passed so quickly as one hour treatment is always too short and just the moment when you are about to get into the gist of it, the time is up and leaving you wanting more. An advance booking for longer therapeutic treatment is more than advisable as they are always booked out.

The ancient technique used in AURIGA Spa is fantastic and impressive and not just a simple word can describe its actual holy experience but to physically have done it yourself. There are many more sensual therapeutic treatments to choose from, as the menu is quite extensive and carefully crafted and tailored, so make the time to enjoy more than once during your stay. The award winning AURIGA Spa only had just won the “World’s Best New Hotel Spa” from the World Spa Awards 2022 and you can attest to this honour, as it is achieving all the expected touch points for a luxury rejuvenation. The amenities are to be expected for such a luxury brand and had we had more time to stay, we would have indulged more, but at least we had one experience to remember.
