Hermès opens a new store located on the ground floor of Galaxy Macau marks the fourth store in Macau emphasises the ties Hermès has with the vibrant city and offers a convivial space where imagination takes shape in the sixteen métiers of the house. Macau possesses the complete fusion of traditional and modern culture, where leisure activities are accompanied by a picturesque architectural landscape.
The unique vision for the store, conceived by the Parisian architecture agency RDAI, is established from the first encounter thanks to the brilliant jade-coloured floor-to-ceiling façade inside the mall. The colour evokes the symbolism of this local stone, its association with protec-tion and eternal friendship, and the cultural history of the city and its Portuguese influences. Up close, a study of the façade reveals handmade ceramic tiles artfully assembled in a chevron pattern and glazed in gradient shades from emerald to the purest white, the stone's most precious hue. The wide windows showcase animated displays of the latest collections and accessories.
The entrance leads into an expansive, open-plan layout that is centred around the leather universe, followed by individual spaces dedicated to the lively silk collections, the perfume and beauty métiers, women's ready-to-wear, watches and jewellery, men's ready-to-wear, and home and equestrian collections in a surrounding pattern. The design encourages an intuitive explora-tion and the eye is drawn to the geometric cherrywood frames that display a prominent selection of silk scarves. In this way, a sense of intimacy is created within each universe. The back of the store is framed by a wall fashioned from lacquered bamboo blades, each of which having been oxidised using the Japanese hand-applied bokashi technique, highlighting the artisanal approach harnessed into the store design.
The store unites a singular design identity that combines the singularity of the local culture with Hermès' recognisable architectural codes, such as the signature Ex-Libris, the mosaic flooring inspired by the Faubourg Saint-Honoré flagship store, and the Grecques lighting, which enhances the volume and layout of the space. The palette pays homage to the historic houses in the nearby Taipa village, painted in sun-faded greens and sunset pinks. These shades reappear in bespoke dégradé hand-woven carpets, leather seating, and in the green and jade cabochons that decorate the graphic black and white mosaic flooring that recalls traditional Portuguese tiles. The customised motif evolves in a gradient that amplifies the rhythm and dis-covery of the store.
The new Hermès store in Macau offers local customers and new visitors an enhanced retail ex-perience in a welcoming environment with unique identity. It binds the city’s cultural legacy and contemporary exuberance with the Parisian house's creativity and fine craftsmanship in an en-chanting dialogue.
