Taking inspiration from the drawings and collections of British naturalists, the new Paul Smith monkey print is the key motif from the Pre AW2017 collection. Appearing in men’s and women’s pre-collections, the new monkey print, which was designed in-house, appears across a wide variety of product categories in a range of finishes and applications.
For men, the full monkey print appears as a bold all-over pattern on shirts, backpacks and small leather goods including wallets and cardholders. The monkey also features as a solo motif embroidered onto sweatshirts and outerwear, plus as a graphic on silk pocket squares. For women, the all-over monkey print features on shirts, tops and dresses, while the single monkey has been worked onto key scarf styles with textured embroidery to create a unique and tactile figure.
The monkey print continues Paul Smith’s reputation as an innovator in print design. Paul Smith’s in-house print design team created the new motif after being inspired by Victorian-era naturalists who carefully documented their findings in drawings and taxidermy collections.
