Mercedes me Introduces Sunday Champagne Brunch

A lifestyle restaurant was formed purely for the purpose of creating experiences for aficionados of the whole Mercedes lifestyle and developed organically around the products that such lovers of the brand crave. Mercedes me takes the challenge to go extra mile and presents an exceptional culinary experience. mylifestylenews explores their Sunday brunch offer.

We arrived a little early before things got under way – our booking was for 11:30am but the team was readily waiting and welcoming diners. It was nice to see everything set up before each item and section had been plundered by the hungry hordes.

The ambience is nicely judged with masculinity, plush blue banquettes, mini library bookshelves with coffee table books and car as well as other “collector’s item” on display. Lots of vintage Mercedes car images on wall display, this 408 sqm space with a DJ station to play live music to add vibes even on Sunday brunch.

The menu is neatly divided into Buffet Stations / Interactive Stations / Mains / Desserts. It sounds simple, but there are a few unexpected delights as well as the usual must includes. Spanish roots Executive Chef Edgar Sanuy focuses on produce from his own country, plus Japan, Peru and France. Hence, the ambitious gastronomy offer wide varieties in terms of choice but somehow lacking in bringing out the best from the ingredients used especially the main courses.

As there are a lot of individual components that make up the whole, Mercedes me still has a few highlights. Firstly, the service is quite switched on from the moment we arrived and you never seem to be looking for a waiter as they are always one step ahead of you. That is pleasing.

Bakery selection is sensational and there is something to please everyone. Starters likewise, the edamame bean paste on crisp bread was simply divine as well as other homemade dressing such as raspberry vinaigrette.

There are three interactive stations featuring live cooking presenting sustainable seafood, eggs cooked a la minute, as well as farm cheese selections. The cheeses are a must, save some room for these to compliment your desserts.

You are encouraged to enjoy every tasting-portioned main courses brought to the table in sharing style and we tried every one just to see the breadth of flavours and cooking styles.

Mussels and anchovy are part of the buffet spread selection.

The <Sobrassada and Mozzarella Bikini> & the <Organic Smoke Salmon Bikini> comes with garlic and cream cheese are very breakfast style “ham & cheese” like is the Spanish version of a Croque Monsieur lightly toasted with a rather salty influence.

The <Pork Belly> had a rich flavor from the marinate with slightly crispy outer edges and yet tender.

<Padron Peppers> is one of the souls on Spanish Tapas, it was quite piquant when topped with Arbequina extra virgin olive oil and a perfect foil for the pork. But once again over powering by the sea salt.

The <Australian Aged Wagyu Skirt> with Shiso-churri was quite well seasoned and even though recommended medium, it is tender and flavoursome.

<Baked Angel Hair Pasta> was a mixed bag. With fresh seaweed laying all over the broken tiny cut Angel hair as garnish that absorbed the prawn jus on a skillet that obviously needed to be baked that eventually to create light crust on the rim doesn’t really sounds like a idea of a pasta dish although it may be Spanish. The garlic Aioli are supposed to get tossed with overcooked Angel hair before sampling.

<Pont Neuf Potatoes> with garlic and Peruvian yellow aji dip that define how good potato fries should taste and look. A must order.

As for dessert, the <Dulce de Leche> comes with beautiful caramel flavours and crunchy dipping over a Whisky Curd cream and this was to be savoured with every devilish mouthful. This brunch offers high quality ingredients with HKD$580 per person (food only), when you compare this to other offers it doesn’t try to do what everyone else does where you can sample every main in smaller tasting portions plus the free flow option is another attractive offer. Ensure you upgrade to the Ruinart Champagne.
