When staying at such a luxury resort as SALA hospitality group, you already known you have gotten yourself into another world, but the next step is to escape the limits of time for a perfectly suited Spa journeys. The SALA Spa at The SALA Phuket Resort & Spa is a contemporary haven of equilibrium and wellness inspired by tradition and technique by exploring a range of alluring signature spa rituals or combine modern and ancient techniques to mold your treatment to suit your senses.

The Spa architecture exudes a contemporary Sino Portuguese inspired design evoking the sensual harmony of a Chinese water garden. The moment you walk along a mysterious long corridor and step into the Spa sanctuary proper, you are surrounded with the calming effects of water and relaxation. While attractive in daylight, it is simply gorgeous in the evening with all the lighting effects, so you must take a look at both times of the day to see the wondrous simplicity of the design elements.

We chose to explore two distinctly different signature rituals, the SALA Selections Massage and the Asian Combination Massage. The SALA Selections Massage is a truly sublime and unforgettable spa experience. The technique combines four different massage styles of Thai Massage, Hawaiian Lomi Lomi, Swedish and Balinese. This signature massage is performed by using the specifically-blended massage essential oils of coconut. The gentle and healing hands of the therapist help to calm the nervous system, warm and relax muscle tissue and promote the growth of healthy, new skin cells, ultimately resulting in total relaxation and suppleness of the skin.

Of course, a treatment is only as good as the therapist and our therapist listened carefully to our request for a very strong pressure and what areas to avoid and she delivered on all counts. This resulted in a very intense massage that truly gets deep into the tissue and you can always ask the therapist to ease off, but this also means lesser results and we wanted the full gamut of what this massage can deliver.

The Asian Combination Massage is personalized to focus on the areas of the body affected by tension and stress. Special blends of oils are prepared to penetrate your skin to soothe tired and aching muscles. It is designed to increase flexibility, relieve tightness and improve circulation and recovery time. This treatment uses a lot of the elbow, the palm of the hand and occasionally some very strong thumb technique, which we found to be stronger than the normal techniques we have encountered in past massage experiences. The elbow displaces more area of muscle at the one fluid stroke, in the most effective ways to get the best result.

Coincidentally, we had a very vigorous kayaking session just two days ago that we were still suffering from, with aching muscles that hurt when we bent the leg or raised the arm a certain way and to a certain height. At the very beginning we thought we would be brave and not say anything about this and there were a few moments of flinching silently to ourselves, but very quickly this subsided and the therapist seemed to really know what areas to go hard on and where to ease up at just the right moment.

We had the unerring sense that both our therapists could feel where our muscles were in need of attention, we were impressed with their technique and insight. Since both massage treatments were done late in the evening, we left the oil on overnight  to allow the full effect on our skin in which a minimum two hours by keeping the oil in the body is nothing unusual. We loved the silken feeling of our skin and never underestimate the power of all natural essential oils. Waking up the next morning, all the aches from the kayaking had disappeared much to our surprise, full marks are given to the therapist for such indulgent and intense treatment with revitalization and a refreshing start.
