From abandoned tin mine to a all-in-one hotel offers
unrivalled access to shopping, dining and entertainment either for leisure or
business. The Sunway Resort and Spa is one of the largest developments in Kuala
Lumpur, located within the integrated township of Sunway Resort City - a city
within a city. mylifestylenews spent
a 24 hour to discover this suburban kingdom…..
The 800 acre self-contained landmark comprises a collection
of hotels & villas, conference and convention centre, a Lagoon theme park,
a mega shopping & entertainment mall, University, hospital as well as is
own mono-rail runs within its very own township. We checked - in to the resort’s
villa which is the luxury portfolio accommodation of the entire Sunway Resort
Hotel & Spa.
Hidden within a lush 800 acre tropical garden with fountains
and cascading waterfalls, these 17 Asian-styled and discreetly appointed villas
embody a contemporary Malaysian style and timeless Asian ambience within the
conveniences and comforts of a five-star resort. We were placed into Villa
Bayu, at 192sqm the largest in size, occupying the space of
two units. It is separated into two accommodation pavilions joined by a
courtyard and covered walkway with water feature. Every villa has a master
suite with a private infinity-edge plunge pool, sunken bathtub and rain-shower
facilities, leafy balcony and numerous leisure facilities which are de rigueur
these days for all five-star hotels/resorts.
The villa is rather well equipped and yet with the size of
the size being filled up with space occupying furniture and other amenities, we
felt a little squeezy freezy and claustrophobic. The amenities were a little
more luxurious than some, with Molton Brown toiletries, good quality slippers
for walking around the extensive grounds and an enormous welcome fruit platter
is rather overwhelming. While coffee drinkers are very well catered for with a
dedicated free standing coffee machine, the tea selection is quite poor, we
couldn’t help but wonder, are coffee drinkers given much more preference these
days or tea is not the priority option in this region?
Some of the interiors in the villa are beginning to have its wear and tear, there are also a few niggling things in the villa, such as the squeaky bedroom floorboards, lack of television channels for international western guests. When you are ready for bed, we couldn’t find the master switch, hence, we had to do the rounds to switch all the lights off, section by section. Little thing as such could create less convenience especially when the villa is recognized for its luxury concept and standard.
A few steps away are located the other key facilities: a
large fitness centre, an enormous free-form swimming pool with a cascading
waterfall and the Balinese-inspired Mandara Spa. Naturally with an integrated
resort complex of mega proportions, there are a huge number of food and
beverage options to choose from within the hotel grounds and next door in the
mega shopping mall. Our late lunch and dinner are served at the all day dining restaurant,
Fuzion with international buffet that covers just about any choice and mood of
food possible despite most dishes were in repetition from lunch to dinner.
All villas guests have access to The Pavilion - just like a
hotel Club Lounge, which serves as a reception area and meets all dining
requirements. It has a tranquil and refined atmosphere to relax in and
breakfast and evening cocktails and canapés are served here. Our evening
cocktails and breakfast experience in The Pavilion exposed some flaws in
the service despite the staff are warm and welcoming and going out of their way
to please.
The Cascading Waterfall leading to the main building
Fuzion All Day Dining Restaurant
But somehow flaws did appears, a 15 minutes wait for a glass red wine and a glass of white wine being poured into a champagne flute to be deliver and we were the only two guests during cocktail hour and canapes to follow. The wait was even longer at breakfast in the next morning, a 30 minutes wait and came with wrong order while we were the only guests before any other arrived. Shall the villa guests be looked after with much exclusive and attentive service or it is the service staff not being well trained enough in accordance and ready for such luxurious conformity.

What makes every stay at the luxury villas like this differ from their regular hotel rooms experience is its exclusive service provided with other exclusivity and detailed being well look after. If these flaws can be addressed to meet such exclusive requirements where the hardware and software of this resort finds it balance, all of these and more, it will then delight your senses for all the adventures encounter and to discover the unexpected experience.
