Bonhams Announces Hong Kong’s Fine Jewellery And Jadeite Auction

Bonhams Hong Kong’s ‘Fine Jewellery and Jadeite’ auction revealed details of some truly spectacular catalogue highlights, including statement pieces unseen at auction for over 10 years by Graeme Thompson, Director of Jewellery for Bonhams Asia i. The auction will take place at 2pm on Wednesday, 3rd June 2015 at Bonhams Hong Kong Gallery, One Pacific Place in Admiralty.  Cushion-shaped, fancy intense pinkish purple diamond – 1.51-carats, VS2 clarity Set between an openwork split shank set with brilliant cut diamonds. An extremely rare and truly unique piece – it’s the only cushion-shaped diamond of this colour to come up at international auction in more than a decade. Particularly scarce and highly esteemed, purple diamonds connote royalty, power and honour (one was recently assessed by the British Gemmological Institute to be the most valuable natural object in existence based on weight). Estimated at HK$2,500,000 -  3,500,000

Cushion-shaped fancy intense yellowish green diamond - 3.15 carats Green diamonds develop their colour as a result of natural radiation from deep within the earth’s surface and they are known for being extremely scarce.
Estimated at HK$1,300,000 - 1,600,000

Rectangular step-cut Fancy vivid yellow diamond - 22.57 carats, Vs2 clarity. A rectangular step cut vivid yellow diamond over 20 carats has not been offered at auction worldwide in the last 10 years, which makes this magnificent diamond ring the star lot. The combination of cut, clarity and colour is highly important and of particular interest.
Estimated at HK$12,000,000 -18,000,000.

While diamonds will never lose their classic appeal, coloured gemstones are proving a canny investment having outstripped other stones in price gains - some having risen by a staggering 2,200 per cent over the past decade. Bonhams has tracked a significant increase in the price per carat achieved for coloured gemstones in its auctions over the last decade.

Bonhams Hong Kong actively promotes coloured diamonds and gemstones and this June auction promises to drive worldwide interest and demand. Graeme comments, “Collectors know that they can rely on Bonhams to offer some of the world’s most impressive fine jewellery pieces. Our past achievements are testament to the exceptional nature of our recent consignments. This auction offers an incredibly important collection of rare coloured diamonds and outstanding gemstones, alongside a selection of antique and period jewellery, including pieces from the Houses of both Cartier and Van Cleef and Arpels. It’s poised to be a very interesting and exciting afternoon of bidding.”

A lavender jadeite, sapphire and diamond necklace. A beautiful necklace, set with seven well-matched lavender jadeite cabochons of fine translucency, embellished with oval and pear-shaped sapphires and brilliant-cut diamonds.
