In Asia, one does not have a multitude of choices for
exclusivity with One Island, One Resort concept on a privately owned island.
Pangkor Laut Resort is the very few premier resort that nestling in the shade
of forest giants as old as the land. mylifestylnews
travels to the west coast of the Perak State of Malaysia along the Straits
of Malacca to discover this piece of
paradise which has been 2 million years in the making……
With much anticipation that we arrived at the Pangkor Laut
Resort Marina on the west coast of Perak State, Malaysia to begin our prior check-in. The basic formalities are done at
the marina’s reception, all that remained was to board the boat and be
transported into a world of exotic rainforest with mesmerizing flora and fauna.
The Pangkor Laut Resort is a ‘Jewel in the crown’ of the YTL group that owns and runs this resort. Moreover, being a member of the Small Luxury Hotels Of The World (SLH) group, so it certainly commands a certain cache in the realms of luxury resorts, attracting luxe aficionados from around the world. As you alight at the island marina’s jetty, staff are patiently waiting to impact your world and there is one staff member allocated for every room's booking to escort you first to the lobby reception and then to your eagerly awaited accommodation for a seamless introduction to your new exotic world.

The resort has a number of accommodation options, ranging
from Spa and Sea Villas to Garden and Hill Villas as well as Beach Villas that all with a balcony
terrace and some sea views of sorts (each is different depending on location). No matter which villa that you are in, the epitome of sophistication and tranquility are ensured. We were booked into a Garden Villa and its perspective with a combined vista of garden and sea view that
was extremely tranquil. Strategically located to the main facilities, the villa is well appointed with HIS and HER vanity and wardrobe, a supremely comfortable bed and a balcony
with two sun lounges. We like the beautiful glass-walled stone bathtub and separate shower for pampering with its signature toiletries provided.
There might be a disappointment to some as there is no free
wi-fi in any guest villas, complimentary wi-fi access only available at Reception and the
Library. An additional daily cost if you are desperate to be connected with
the world at all times. In a sense it can enforce you to totally immerse
yourself into a state of complete relaxation, so it can be a positive for some.
The main location on either side of the lobby comprising of multiple options, all of which are looking out to the sea. Other facilities includes 3 tennis courts and squash
courts; a large infinity swimming pool with adjacent to the Royal Bay Beach
Club. There is a equipped gym with cardio machines, weight training machine. Behind the main lobby, there is a
library lounge as well as a computer stations and pavilions equipped with day beds that is ideal for day-dreaming while the sea breeze continuously
cooling the atmosphere validating the entire area.
When you wish to leave the confines of your room, you are
spoilt for choice. As the resort is the only occupier of the island, various Food & Beverage outlets and signature restaurants to cater for all your need. Emerald Bay is a great escape, a broad sweep of pristine sand and green-blue sea backed by rainforest. This is the only
beach that is safe to swim in the resort and various water sport options available. Uncover a fascinating insight into the spectacular virgin rainforest that
is estimated over 2 million years old, you may join for a morning jungle
tracking with the resident naturalist which conducts daily walks with informative
knowledge on the rich plant and animal life that thrives within it.
Dining at Pangkor Laut Resort is a culinary adventure across cultures whether you are snacking enjoying a private dining experience with commitment to quality and authenticity reflecting on every dish at Chapman's Bar that is named after a famous British Colonel who sought refuge at Emerald Bay before his dramatic escape by submarine in 1945.
The all day dining Feast Village offers multiple live cooking stations covering a wide selection of local and international food. Some of the F&B outlets are only open for lunch or dinner, which is a great concept that you get a chance to experience different options for different meal periods and gives a new point of interest while wining and dining. There are dress code requirements at The Straits and The Fisherman Cove restaurant, do check with the dining concierge while making your reservation.
Over at The Spa Village, it has a long infinity pool facing the sea
and the Water Villas. A poolside Jamu bar that serves Japanese food
and the Spa itself as well as a
fine dining Fisherman’s Cove featuring fresh catch of the day and The Uncle Lim’s Kitchen offers traditional Hock
Chew and Nyonya dishes overlooking the Spa Village enclave.
No matter how many amenities are provided, the key to enjoying
this luxury resort is to slow down and explore all corners of the
resort at a leisurely pace. As there are so many options for relaxation, we
never had a problem finding a lounge to relax on. Only 20% of the island has been developed for this resort, so
you do feel special when you stay on such an exclusive island. Service is also a
feature, as nothing is too much to deliver and the staff don’t want to intrude
on your very own ‘me time’. Hence, you are never
rushed in by them.
This private hideaway off Malaysia's west coast is a very special island resort to consider for a romantic dream destination or just for a complete getaway. It offers subtle luxury in a million years old rainforest setting. If you hanker for a secluded island with no distractions with a combination of luxury, natural beauty and age-old wilderness woven together to produce an environment with peace, you magical dream-come-true moments begins here.
