TUMI first collaboration with a Chinese designer; Beijing-based Christine Chingyeung Lau, founder of fashion label Chictopia for its FW2014/15 collection. The CHICTOPIA for TUMI by Christine Lau collaboration introduces an enchanting new limited edition travel bag and accessories collection that is exclusive to Lane Crawford from and available at TUMI retail stores in HK and China in Fall 2014. Inspired by the British equestrian, circus owner and inventor Philip Astley, otherwise known as the “father of the modern circus”, this striking new assortment includes a diverse mix of TUMI’s bestselling carry-on totes, wheeled packing cases and small accessories enriched by quirky fabric prints. Playful circus themed prints, including richly illustrated monkeys, elephants and other whimsical elements bring this creative and unique designer collection to life.
The CHICTOPIA for TUMI by Christine Lau designs feature five unique prints in a sophisticated palette of blue, berry, beige, champagne and slate. These include ‘Monkey Mania’, ‘Elephant Carnival’, ‘Monkey Swing’, ‘Carnival’ and ‘Spikes’ printed on the Triple-Compartment Wristlet, Toiletry Kit, Capri Cross-Body, Q-Tote, Just in Case Travel Duffel, International Carry-On, Medium Trip Packing Case and Extended Trip Packing Case.
Born in Beijing and raised in Hong Kong, Lau graduated from London’s famed Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. She started her career as a textile designer before launching her fashion label, Chictopia at the age of 24 in 2009. Chictopia has become a one of-a-kind fashion label that blends retro elements and modern simplicity to create a fresh contemporary style that is exquisite and unique. "I believe that fabric is the key to fashion and I enjoy designing quirky fabric prints for each of my collections. For this collaboration with TUMI, I created playful yet elegant prints to appeal to independent, trailblazing women who have a passion for fashion and travel. I’m delighted to be able to apply Chictopia designs to the impeccable TUMI range, a brand that I admire for its design aesthetic and functionality,” said Lau.
