Upholding the fundamental traditions of
watchmaking, the Audemars Piguet Manufacture
has put a great effort in developing one of the important mechanisms of a
movement – the escapement. Inspired by the work of Robert
Robin the clock maker from the 18th century, The Audemars Piguet
escapement combines the high efficiency of a direct impulse escapement with the
reliability of a traditional, Swiss lever escapement. Not only does it ensure
excellent efficiency and guarantee superior shock-resistance, it also operates lubricant-free.
By oscillating twice as fast as normal at an exceptional frequency of 43,200 (6 Hz)
vibrations per hour, the balance ensures enhanced timekeeping and improved
reliability of the movement. The Jules Audemars Chronometer houses the
hand-wound Caliber 2908. With its high effectiveness, the precision of the
movement is improved which makes it less sensitive to shocks and provides
optimal long-term stability. The two parallel-mounted barrels ensure a 90-hour
power reserve and serve to compensate for the extra energy required to maintain
the high frequency. The caliber is also equipped with two balance-springs placed top to tail
that ensure an automatic compensation for the various posing flaws, which
eliminates the imprecision resulting from the vertical position of the watch
without needing to resort to a complex device such as a tourbillon. The
exceptional Caliber 2908 has a total diameter of 39.8mm, and the open design of
the watch makes it easier for wearers to appreciate every detail of it. This
emblematic Jules Audemars model comes in an 18K pink gold case and a
hand-stitched “large square scale” brown crocodile strap with a 18K pink gold AP folding clasp. The
movement with its special “NAC” galvanic treatment is highlighted by the
three-dimensional design of this timepiece. The
exceptional Jules Audemars Chronometer with Audemars Piguet Escapement,
together with a number of the brand’s remarkable timepieces was showcased
at World Brand Piazza 2014 presented by Prince Jewellery & Watch Company
from the 3rd to the 7th of September.
