Max Mara SS2014 collection inspired by Metropolitan, neo-minimalist
elegance. Reminiscent of a legendary New York, the ideal stage for innovation
and incomparable style icons, fashion and contemporary art, the galleries in
SoHo, airy lofts and the colourful electric flashing lights on the road of neon
signs and billboards. The style is
defined by the radical sophistication of impeccable monochrome combinations.
Coats are in the spotlight, underlining the collection’s sleek personality. And of course they make up sophisticated combinations in toning shades and textures, for a couture version of the twinset. They alternate with suits and the pencil skirts. The capes with hoods are as generous and boxy as cloaks. The new versions of the masculine jacket, without buttons, light, unlined and as informal as a cardigan. Or denim garments with the mark and tones of a Robert Ryman monochrome painting.
Linen makes a comeback. Ultra light cashmere, cool wool, cotton canvas, linen and the lightest tricot. Lamé and paper effect fabrics. Pale, neutral shades of pearl beige and pearl grey flow into the dark and determined tones of cement and coal, hinting at the streets and buildings of a cityscape. Against the backdrop of a collection illuminated by the deep, dynamic and electric tones of blue and purple, green and red.
Accessories are rigorously coordinated. Sandals in lamé with high stiletto heels in toning resin, the pure geometric lines of the JBag and clutches. Sunglasses with wide, rounded lenses with the thinnest of enamel-coated metal frames. A “dressy” collection from head to foot.
