VIVIENNE TAM Spring 2014 Collection is an ode to modern Shanghai ,
celebrating its new golden age as the epicenter of culture, fashion, technology
and commerce. Vivid colors, architectural shapes and vibrating
patterns evoke a pulsing metropolis and breathe new life into the
traditional Calendar Girls that originally inspired the
collection.
These icons of a past era, with their manicured hair and glamorous but uniform qipaos give way to the modern woman – the collection is relaxed and versatile, reflecting the fresh, natural beauty of the world traveler and culture-trotter who is individualistic and defines her own style.
Prints are derived from the 1930's but are rendered in modern shapes and a suggestion of the iconic qipao finds expression in a diagonal folded or slit motif, sometimes edged with trapunto. Classic silhouettes are tweaked into asymmetric or bias-cut forms rendered in silk, viscose, poplin, tencel, textured cotton and mesh.
Easily layered separates, mixed patterns, patchwork prints and embroideries are juxtaposed with organic, painterly motifs in fern green, coral, poppy, cerulean, as well as graphic black and white.
