TOD'S @ SS2014 Men & Women Collection

TOD's SS2014 men collection goes back to the tradition of Made in Italy that requires the selection and processing of leather from the best tanneries is given special treatments and finishes and combined with modern technology to create a collection suited to the contemporary male cosmopolitan lifestyle. The Tod’s Men’s Collection features a number of different bag styles, including the range of Double Stripe models. Special attention has been given to the lines of all the bags, which have become more geometric; shapes are now generally more square, something particularly apparent in the small cross-shoulder strap bags. In addition to its use on bags, the Double Stripe motif can now be found on other Tod’s pieces too. 

The Tod's footwear for the season is built around the House’s famous Gommino style with its rubber pebble sole. The new Gommino has a square toe-shape with a raw-cut leather lace tie and comes in many colours. Other styles in the family include the slip-on Mocassino with its loafer strap, a Gommino  variant with a double-stripe strap, called the Fascia Stripe, and the Gommino Mocassino Bespoke, a model available exclusively at Tod’s stores which is elaborately hand-coloured and wax-polished, resulting in a distinctive cloudy effect on the calfskin.

The leather sole group of shoes and boots features a complex construction in which a leather sole is treated with rubber injections and rubber gommini details. Styles include the fringe, which has an elegant leather fringe with perforations, and micro buckle, the lace-up, which has graphic and modern perforations for a contemporary  elegant look which is smooth, simple and versatile, and the ankle boot , a clean style, completely devoid of visible stitching, with a side zip. The rubber sole collection offers a remarkable selection of lightweight shoes that have substantial and rugged soles. The soles are made from an avant-garde synthetic material very light, which is has a weight of just one third that of other materials with the same resistance. These soles are non-toxic and shock resistant. Styles include moccasins, lace up, and a monk strap ankle boot.

The new Gommino 122 driving moccasin is characterised by its squared-toe shape and its iconic gommini pebble sole, and in the Fascia Stripe style features a bold dual-colour-block strap in either yellow and white, orange and white, or blue and white, depending on the colour of the shoe. The Double Stripe detail makes a subtle appearance on a number of the ready-to-wear jackets in leather and suede. Here, it is used as a detail on pockets, adding a subtle House signature to these luxurious modern-classic pieces.

The women's collection sees the arrival of the first season’s designs by Alessandra Facchinetti, who created a range of elegant and distinctive shoes, bags and accessories that perfectly represent the hallmark of Tod’s. Made in Italy, which has always been the cornerstone of the Brand’s DNA, is now applied to daywear, interpreted by Facchinetti to echo the clean lines and the debt to saddlery that is always evident in Tod’s leather goods.

 Feminine fitted cropped leather biker jackets are sure to become instant classics, while flowing leather skirts and fluid leather dresses impart instant understated luxurious glamour to the wearer. Simple clean cotton and georgette dresses and classic cotton shirts underpin the look and complement the unfussy accessories that constitute the foundation of the Tod’s look.

The iconic, the Gommino driving loafer, comes in stripes and spots this season, and in the slip-on category there is a stylish leather moccasin that has been imagined in a variety of sporty but chic two-tone contrasting colours – cream and navy, yellow and cream, and pale blue and black. The new Ballerina Gommino in bright red, pink and cream have acquired long fringes and in another style, an ankle strap; fringing also appears on high heels and sandals – indeed there is a large variety of flat sandals, styles surely destined to become summer staples.

The season’s bags have a relaxed, luxury spirit to match the clothing. Fringing – a key ornament for the season  is found on the stylish leather Bauletto, while the Sella Bag, large Shopper and classic Bauletto all come with striped panels in contrasting colours. The more structured Tod’s D- Cube Bag comes in four sizes, with contrasting coloured panels and in a range of leathers, including exotic skins. The Bucket is slouchy and relaxed, a contemporary, elegant all-purpose bag with a fine shoulder strap and geometric contrasting colour panels.

The collection is completed with a selection of distinctive leather belts and bracelets in colours that complement the bags, shoes and clothing, plus some stone-and-metal organic-shaped bracelets, and colourful patterned silk scarves.

The Tod's Women's Ready-to-Wear Collection called “Italian Set”, now features beautiful dresses, capes, and shirts in luxurious, butter-soft leather, and natural cotton, as well as the comprehensive range of elegant and distinctive shoes, bags and accessories that have become the hallmark of Tod’s. Facchinetti echo the clean lines and the tribute to saddlery that is always evident in Tod’s leather goods. Feminine fitted cropped leather biker jackets are sure to become instant classics, while flowing leather skirts and fluid leather dresses add an understated luxurious glamour. The collection incorporates the Signature pattern into its design, which here has been re-imagined to feature perforations, suggesting a degree of subtle transparency. Soft and elegant, the range includes a short and a long leather skirt, a leather T-shirt, a cotton shirt, dress and skirt. Simple clean cotton and georgette dresses, and classic cotton shirts complete the look and complement the unfussy accessories that constitute the foundation of the Tod’s look.
