PORTS 1961 @ SS2014 Womenswear Collection

PORTS 1961 SS2014 Womenswear Collection inspired by Michelangelo Antonioni’s 1970 film “Zabriskie Point”, Fiona Cibani draws on panoramic photographic vistas of desert, sun and sky to express the free spirit of adventure.

The opening look, a mid-thigh length boyfriend shirt, is a tribute to the iconic blouse that Ports 1961 was built on. This is followed by flatteringly feminine A-line dresses and skirts, Cibani’s own staple, making a perfect contrast of bold forms that serve to underscore and highlight Ports 1961’s essential ‘sporty femininity’.

Fluid desert landscapes are echoed in soft voluminous overcoats and dresses, while hypnotic sunset striations inspire ‘lighter than air’ layering and colors. Photographic prints of low-dipping sunsets are complimented with colors derived from vivid desert skies and landscapes: camel, optic white, black, bubble-gum and sky blue.

Lightness is fundamental with tulle, chiffon, crisp cotton poplin and organza matched by doubled lace, silk cady, satin and gazar. Some of these key fabrics are also decorated with Swarovski-embellished gros-grain strips, others with all-over micro paillette embellished panels to mimic a pleated effect that creates a sense of drama in motion.

Fiona Cibani’s interpretation of the stark beauty of Antonioni’s cinematography takes the Ports 1961 woman into a new yet also richly familiar place for SS2014.
