In 2013, Victorinox Swiss Army presents a new star from its
best-selling Chrono Classic, turning a classic watch into a chronograph
accurate to 1/100th of a second. For the first time, the 1/100th of
a second is displayed numerically, by means of two rotating discs. From tomorrow, 22nd to 24th November 2013, Victorinox
Swiss Army will be showing this innovative timepiece in an exhibition at Atrium I of the Gateway
Arcade in Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui. The exhibition invites those who pursue
accuracy, style and function in a wristwatch to experience the charisma of this
innovative timepiece. Inspired by the design of the Chrono Classic 1/100th, the roof
of the exhibition booth is a real-time display of the timepiece’s functions,
visible from the upper floors of the atrium. At the exhibition, four styles of
the Chrono Classic 1/100th with varying colours and materials will
be available for public viewing. Patrons of the exhibition are also eligible to
a series of shopping privileges at the Victorinox brand store at Shop 3221, Gateway
Arcade, Harbour City upon presentation of the instant photo taken at the venue.
The Chrono Classic continues to evolve but remains faithful to its genetics. The dimensions and lines that have made it one of the brand’s bestsellers remains in place. However, a radical transformation has taken place at the very heart of the watch, and in the way it performs its many functions. The Chrono Classic is now a "three-way" watch, an innovative tool of sober design, as simple to use as the famous Swiss Army knife that inspired it. By simply pressing the crown twice, the classic watch turns into a chronograph accurate to 1/100th of a second. That simple gesture realigns the three central hands at 12 o’clock, while the date indicator at 6 o'clock becomes a counter at zero position. The chronograph is started by simply pressing the button at 2 o'clock. The red central hand then displays the seconds, while the others count out the minutes and hours. The same operation stops the time measurement - the 1/100th of a second shows in the window at 6 o'clock. The 1/100th of a second’s numerical display - by means of two rotary discs arranged on the lower portion of the dial - is truly novel, representing, for this type of movement, nothing short of a world first, both technically and aesthetically. The large date, a perpetual calendar, is also a first for the movement.
