SHANGHAI TANG Kicks Off Pacific Place’s <My Haven My Place> Fashion Exhibition and created an East-meets-West theme. The looks of the season for womenswear include a collection of colour blocking evocative of the Sixties in black, white and red, applied to Chinese shapes such as Mandarin collars and qipao. China’s natural wonders form another of Fall/Winter’s beautiful stories: feathers, cranes, floral motifs and waterfalls applied to the delicate prints, emblems and elaborate beaded embellishments on knits, jackets and elegant accessories. The Silk Road also informs the season and tribal prints in blue, teal, orange, fuchsia and heather grey complement shearling and boiled wool outerwear inspired by traditional Chinese robes. All are to be worn with refined-but-bold accessories.
Shanghai Tang’s FW2013 menswear is about the elements of both style and surprise. Pre-Fall goes for minimalism and precision cutting, in which blacks and blues are combined with pops of bright lemon, orange, pink and green. For Fall itself the layering and mixing of fabrics is key with flashes of colour adding interest. Winter is about performance outerwear and Western collars worn up or down in a jewel-toned, rich, but more muted palette. For the Holiday season Shanghai Tang’s mandarin-collared tuxedo jacket in a printed paisley is the must-have item. Pieces from the new men’s jewellery line of bracelets and fine silk scarves and squares are all that’s needed to finish.
Models walked the runway at Garden Court to the beat of live music. During the run of the three weeks of ‘MY HAVEN MY PLACE’, a dazzlingly lit runway will be in residence at Pacific Place’s Garden Court. This will be enlivened with LED patterning and dynamic graphics and, being the classic runway shape, the looks will be visible from every angle. When it comes to fashion, you’re always tuned in.
