I.T opened the second week of the ‘My Haven My Place’ FW2013 fashion exhibition at Pacific Place recently. As a reflection of what to expect from the cutting-edge labels housed under its fashion-forward roof. The catwalk itself lit up with a vibrant LED graphic of a black and white piano key design, while the musical theme was reinforced as models glided around five grand pianos sponsored by Tom Lee Music, each played by an experienced musician.
Selected womenswear pieces by European labels such as ACNE and Isabel Marant were paraded before guests. Other womenswear designers included, among others, McQ by Alexander McQueen, which brought details like chiffon and zippers, and contrasting colours in black, white, pink and green to the catwalk for punk with a modern edge; Zadig & Voltaire, whose ‘Barock ‘n’ Roll’ collection was inspired by Bowie and Eighties style; and Simone Rocha, with her ‘Respect Your Elders’ theme combining vivid colours and experimental materials that brought retro designs right into the present.
I.T’s FW2013 menswear edit covered themes of the circle of life. COMME des GARÇONS HOMME PLUS showcased its ‘Tree of Youth’ in three acts, while Ann Demeulemeester’s ‘Punk Priest’ collection merged priests’ uniforms with elements of punk, street and rebelwear. Finally, COMMES des GARÇONS Junya Watanabe MAN showed deconstructed classic tailoring, with creative sizing and applied patches for luxury formalwear with an aged appeal.
