Despite there were numerous good actors and remarkable local film directors in this 3 short stories film in their very own style from the adaptation of Lilian Lee's renown horror novel series. Yet, the <Tales From The Dark I> still yet to deliver the good old charms and classics of Chinese horror film in making. Actor turned film director Simon Yam made his debut directorial as well as the lead cast in the first story out of the three by giving his best in juggling both roles. Indeed, Yam has made it work. Not too disappointing for the first half and hour with the plots being executed despite too many deliberate loud and heart stumping sound effect to make it more spooky and terrifying. The 2nd story is the worst and it was more like a dumb head comedy than a horror act and totally misused the talent of character Actor Tony Leung and Kelly Chen. The last story was rather predictable and film director Fruit Chan trying to deliver the cultural heritage and mystical realm of wickedness but rush in to end it with some really bad CG and plots. Still, we have craved for a real good horror with understood and familiarity of our very own heritage and roots for ages. We would long for the <Tales From The Dark II> which will be release next month.
