Karl Lagerfeld SS2013 wardrobes for men and women complement and reflect each other, sharing a sportswear influence whilst always showcasing the casual elegance and streamlined black and white designs that are the KARL brand. Trademarks such as the signature t-shirt and the "camouflage" profile print have become mainstays in both collections alongside the essential white shirt and biker jacket. This season, the focus is on the the K/ZIP line with its multiple zips and metal details, featuring both leather and nylon versions of practical shapes including a carry-on bowling bag and a document holder with the zips forming a k shape.
The men's collection offers a bolder interpretation of sportswear classics, with track pants borrowing from tuxedo trousers, and viceversa. The "camouflage" print is stamped on light nylon for a windbreaker and a summer version of the biker jacket - which is also worked in classic, sleeveless and two-tone designs. Lines are relentlessly graphic, whether running across black and white knits or printed as light-catching bands over sweats and tees.
Fingerless gloves and removable collars studded with rhinestones add KARL glamour to any silhouette. Strappy sandals reveal a block heel imprinted with the letter K.
Metal studs, lizard-effect fabrics and pearlized finishes on denim also bring a touch of light. Colours reflect this electric feel, with purple and pink boosting the focus on black and white. Fitted jackets and narrow ties bring their modern elegance to a streamlined silhouette. High-top trainers in shiny black or white add the final touch to this sporty yet smart attitude.
The women's line reinterprets key shapes as the trench, biker and white shirt transform themselves into waistcoats, dresses or evening tops, with sleeveless or slit versions revealing arms and shoulders. Legs are also bared with shorts in a variety of fabrics from plain denim to snakeskin effect.
Jeans also play with textures, adding a futuristic pearlized finish to a shell-coloured pair as well as to a slim-cut "camouflage" jean in shades of red and purple. Though flashes of electric blue and purple appear within the collection, the key shades are a dramatic trio of black, white and red that can be worn as a total look or as separates for a contrasted graphic silhouette. Jeans and denim biker jackets are worked in these three strong shades.
A "K" letter jacket in white tweed with black sleeves adds a sporty yet elegant touch. Worked as separates and as a long dress, a floral print brings a fresh, contemporary femininity. For evening, pleated and translucent panels bring a hint of mystery to dresses and tops, worked in a subtle mix of black and midnight blue. Flashes of skin and silver metal studs add their sensuality to the classic white shirt.
The KAMERA bag continues to be a key accessory, worked in the bright shades of electric blue and purple seen in the collection, and now available as a mini version for evening in a shiny burnt orange that will not go unnoticed. The KINETIK range of bags with their soft shape, distinctive fringed detailing and chain handles, are available in generous shopper and daytime sizes as well as an evening pouch. Smaller bags and pouches in perforated leather provide transport solutions for all sizes of hi-tech accessories, while sunglasses complete any look.
