<The Blue Room> reexamine the influence of the revolutionary 1960's with modern sound in country and western music pays tribute to Ray Charles and envolve into something more than just a simple homage. Nobody wanted Ray Charles to sing country & western songs except Ray Charles. Thus, they don't try to re-create the album but remake some of its songs and include others by composers whose work would benefit from the genre-blurring treatment Charles pioneered. With more modern songs by Leonard Cohen and Warren Zevon, among others, all done it in Peyroux's feeble jazz style.
There is no supplication but demand in Peyroux's vocal as there isn't any ache, it's all declaration, sleek strings and post mixing arrangement compliment a much listening pleasure instead. It is a brave experience for such attempt but beguiling performance proved and giving its spirit a second generation of consideration. We don't need another Stacey Kent or Cassandra Wilson but a jazz singer with a more personality to give a organic contemporary makeover.
