Audemars Piguet teamed up with The Hong Kong Jockey
Club presented the Audemars Piguet QEII Cup Gala Party recently at the Happy Valley Racecourse to herald the race on Sunday. A giant marquee was set up under the
gorgeous Happy Valley Racecourse skyline and a performance kicked start
the evening in which dancers performed in darkness to interpret the precision of
watchmaking craftsmanship and the dynamic of horse racing, an innovative
approach to highlight the theme of the event.
This annual highlight on the international racing calendar, the Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II (QEII) Cup 2013 also celebrates the 15 years of successive cooperation between Audemars Piguet and The Hong Kong Jockey Club. Tess Collins, the young and talented jazz vocalist and her band sprinkled a
tint of relaxation to the party with her music. The evening was brought to a
climax by the impressive performance of Kit Chan, renowned Singaporean singer,
who enchanted the guests with some of her memorable songs.
The QEII
Cup race was established in 1975 to commemorate the visit of the Queen
Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip to Hong Kong. The race is
traditionally run in the spring season and has become one of the most important
social events in Hong Kong since then. Over the years, the QEII Cup has evolved
into an internationally recognised race, with participants from both local and
overseas. Audemars Piguet became the title sponsor of the QEII Cup since 1999,
which is now an International Group 1 race and stands prominent in the racing
firmament, currently offering a purse of HK$14 million.
Audemars Piguet is the oldest fine watchmaking manufacturers still in the hands of its founding families (Audemars and Piguet).
