MCM announced the new appointment of Swiss designer Adrian J.
Margelist as the Chief Creative Officer responsible for the brand’s creative direction, all future product collections
as well as the development and management of MCM’s creative brand image. Margelist’s
appointment marks his second posting at the legendary leather goods’ house,
having previously worked as the Global Artistic Director from 2008 to 2010. His
repertoire of experience and in-depth understanding of the Asian Pacific &
European markets is estimated to be an invaluable asset to the brand, most
significantly in Asia where the group is poised for considerable growth within
the upcoming years. The designer’s extensive experience in working not only
with MCM’s global offices, but Hong-Kong based Esprit has afforded him a
noteworthy amount of expertise within the Asian markets as well as the rest of
the world. Commencing with Vivienne Westwood in London, the designer’s career debuted when he discovered a passion for accessories while working with the infamous fashion house. After returning to his native Switzerland, Margelist received his master’s degree from Milan and commenced work with textiles at Fabric Frontline, designing precious materials for haute couture labels including Chanel and Givenchy. Adrian then worked as the Global Head of Accessories Design at Esprit, working closely with their Hong Kong-based management. Margelist later commenced with MCM as the Global Artistic Director, where he spent two years leading the brand to novel heights and stardom.
“I’m truly excited to
embark on this new chapter with MCM” affirms Margelist. “I had a fantastic journey in 2008 and am
enthused for this stage in reaching and achieving greater frontiers. Given the
brand’s growing notoriety in Asia, there is an enormous potential in reaching
today’s fans and tomorrow’s loyalists. The consumers are growing and it’s
important that we grow with them.” He maintains. "We are excited
to welcome Adrian J. Margelist again.” Commented Sung-Joo
Kim, Chief Visionary Officer of MCM. “His wealth of knowledge, insight &
experience within the fashion industry will add significant value and expertise
to the team. His new appointment as the Chief Creative Officer is an important
step for MCM, as the brand continues its global expansion. We are looking
forward to designing the future together."
