MAN EXTREME advertising campaign shot by Peter Lindbergh and filmed by Italian movie
director Matteo Garrone. A
man of great character, Eric Bana is an accomplished actor who has performed across a wide spectrum of heroic roles,
perfectly embodying the core values of the BVLGARI MAN EXTREME fragrance -
charm, power and strength. Shot in Rome, the
dramatic black and white images and video both channel a cinematic twist that
is at once imposing, classic and elegant. In the footsteps of Rome’s most
valorous emperors, Eric Bana exerts the strength of a charismatic and fearless hero in an rigorous setting where the
shadows of marble columns and stairs play hide and seek, surrounded by a veil
of mystery while offsetting a chiaroscuro effect. Matteo Garrone’s
signature neo-realistic style heightens the magnificence of Rome and adds the
flitting presence of three symbolic forces that evoke both the ancient
mythology and the brand’s strongest icons – a black eagle, emblem of Rome and symbol of authority and virtuosity;
the lion, icon of magnificence; the snake, a representation of immortality. “The film is western-inspired
– he says - it is a duel. The mood and atmosphere reveal suspense, a strong feeling of an ambush looms throughout the film. We chose to shoot in one selected space, that would
recall ancient Rome and the history of gladiators and the arena, so as to
enhance the on going feeling of tension.” This powerful scenery is further emphasized
by the suggestive rhythm of the music track “Theme of Rome” by Italian composer Daniele Luppi and musician
Danger Mouse. In the print images,
Eric Bana stands tall, his piercing gaze looking off in the distance as the impressive Roman architecture enhances the
mood. He dominates the scene with self assurance and elegance, unfazed by any
possibility of danger or predators. “It was a real honor to work on this
project and something that I had a lot of fun doing. I
love the use of animals and the location was incredible.”
