Lorenzo in Piedmont, NE Italy. These vineyards are home to GAJA, one of Italy’s
best known and most awarded wineries, and fifth-generation sisters Gaia and
Rossana Gaja were pressence at the launch event.
Gaia Gaja gave a storytelling to
bring to life the history of winemaking in San Lorenzo focusing
specifically on the 1989 vintage where the book highlights the nuances and unique
qualities that make San Lorenzo so special. Besides, the hard work, dedication and
revolutionary innovations of fourth-generation and current President, Angelo
Gaja, that have profoundly influenced Italian winemaking and increased its
stature and popularity throughout the world can alos be found in the book.
The Gaja family settled in the Piedmont region in northwest Italy in the mid 17th century. Five generations of Gaja have been producing wines in Piedmont’s Langhe hills since 1859, the year Giovanni Gaja, a local grape grower, founded Gaja Winery in Barbaresco. Its current proprietor and President Angelo Gaja is credited with developing techniques that have revolutionized winemaking in Italy, and terms such as "the undisputed king of Barbaresco", and "the man who dragged Piedmont into the modern world" have been applied to him, and whose Barbaresco wine is considered a status symbol on a par with Chateau Lafite-Rothschild or Krug Champagne.
Today, the Gaja Winery owns 250 acres of vineyards in the Barbaresco and Barolo districts in Piedmont region. In 1994, the Gaja family acquired their first wine estate in Tuscany, Pieve Santa Restituta in Montalcino, producing Brunello di Montalcino, and in 1996, the family purchased a second estate in Tuscany,Ca’Marcanda, located in the Bolgheri district, where renowned Super Tuscans are produced.
