Diane von Furstenberg SS2013 Pre Spring/Cruise Collection zoom in on what it is like to discover America, From the black and white of city skyscrapers, to the pinks of California sunset, by way of nostalgic, sherbet shaded Southern afternoon, they capture the landscape in all of its vibrant contradictions. The journey begins in the DVF headquarters in the Meatpacking District with graphic prints that evoke cobble stone streets and city maps. Color-blocked solids accentuate modern silhouettes, like a feminine wrap top over a cherry red boy shorts, and a deep coral coat over a rock blue pant. Head-to-toe printed sparkle like asphalt under city lights.
Heading south, deep into the Everglades, over sized palms grow wild on a modern vest and skirt combination, while a mixed printed pant evokes the horizon of a sawgrass prairie. Moving towards, Memphis, urban chic gives way to a Rockabilly vibe- think more prim than punk- with playful prints and candy-coated fabrics. Greens range from Seafoam to Kelly, while pinks go from pale to hot, with the occasional pop Elvis yellow. Graceland worthy lapels keep a pair of flamingo pink trousers in the realm of rock and roll and its King, while printed dresses keep the song short and sweet.
Going west, they find the lights of Las Vegas and the warm desert sands of California, with a soft fabrics and lightweight effortless dresses, an open sky dotted with hot air balloons, A belted jacket over a tailored short politely commands attention when paired with sky-high ankle-strap sandals, while ruffled dress with barely there straps is sexy and bold.
