ROBBIE WILLIAMS @ Take The Crown

The crown prince of British pop is ageing well even if he has relied heavily upon the musical genius of others such as Guy Chambers who wrote some of Williams' breakthrough hits such as <Angels> and <Let Me Entertain You>. This latest album is his revived creative relationship with former Take That band mate Gary Barlow co-written  <Candy> and <Different> are as tunefully appealing as anything Williams has recorded. Either you love him or you hate him by getting past his boy band roots or can't reconcile his arrogance, this album is expected to retain the top spot in the singles chart for the second week with his <Candy> single and this 9th williams' album is predicted to debut at number one, according to the Official Charts Company. The album slathers on the ’80s sax and synth to draw a few numbers with vocal melodies. If a new singer just starting out named his album <Take the Crown>, it would seem presumptuous. For Robbie Williams, this is a pertinent choice as he has more than what it takes for the coveted coronet. Exactly what the singer declared in his recent interview : "I want to dominate the charts. I want to take on the world. I want to be a top pop star … it's called Take the Crown for that reason." However, he's not all bluster and bravado here as by now, Williams should have outgrown writing throwaway songs, the lyrics was rather frustrating. His voice also sounds a bit ragged, being a chain-smoker may be the caused, perhaps. This album may not be his triumphant come back and we hope this imperfection may lead him to a "better man" in his 10th solo album.
