At the Pacific
theatre of the Second World War, pilots of the US Navy were given a “life
barter kit” that contained valuable items and a Snow Star “Instant Date” watch
from Milus. These “life barter kits” were tailor-made for pilots that would
allow them, in the event of a parachute jump or forced landing, to negotiate
for information, freedom or even their lives. In 2012, Milus pays homage to its
historical flagship model by issuing the Limited Edition “Snow Star Heritage
Kit” in two versions, with the stainless steel version being pre-selected for
this year’s Swiss “Montre de l’Année” award. To celebrate the rebirth of this
timeless legend launched the “Snow Star Heritage Kit” as well as to
share with the members of the media the fascination of this masterpiece that
has spanned its history over 70 years.
The story of the Milus Snow Star Heritage Kit was introduced whereby the original watch included in the US Navy “life barter kits” had saved the lives of numerous US Navy pilots. Unfortuately, the records were all destroyed in a fire, and the glorious history was only unearthed by a military collector in the US in 2010.
A presentation followed by an enthralling unveiling ceremony signifying the reborn of the Snow Star Heritage Kit was presented. A pilot in the 40s came on stage with the original vintage “life barter kit”, then disappeared to the backstage. Then, two models of the modern time appeared with the new Snow Star watches driven by an overhauled movement from the 40’ s and the aviation-themed cufflinks. The luncheon was concluded by a try-on session arranged for the guests to experience the historical heritage and craftsmanship of the two versions of the Snow Star Heritage Kit.
