Style is priceless and now it is weightless......Silhouette latest Space Sunglasses let yo experience the journey of the edge of space. The sky is no longer the limit and it made the perfect sight on a journey into the infinite expanses of space. The starting pistol could be fired this year for space tourism, as an American company wants to be able to fly non-astronauts to the "edge of space". An Austrian product will also be on board – the most lightweight eyewear in the universe and manufactured by Silhouette.
“You are as one of the first tourists on a mission into space, and will be taking with the special sunglasses specially developed by Silhouette to meet your needs in space. The Managing Director of Silhouette presented the eyewear to you - together with best wishes for a good trip.” The space tourist will make this giant leap and will be perfectly equipped for his most exciting journey to date. He will be able to look forward to the very best, and also the most "lightweight", vision thanks to these Silhouette sunglasses that have been adapted to meet the special conditions in space. Silhouette can look back on more than ten years of experience in space, as astronauts have been wearing the hand-made, ultra-lightweight Austrian eyewear on more than 30 missions into space. The Silhouette experts developed ultra-dark sunglasses with a gold flash – specifically for use in space. While the atmosphere reduces the intensity of sunlight on Earth, human eyes are exposed to significantly greater – up to 30% more – UV and infra-red rays in space.
"The challenges in developing the special Voyager lenses were diverse," explains Rupert Spindelbalker, responsible for research and development at Silhouette. "Above all we had to find optimum protection against the intensive UV and infra-red rays in space," continues Rupert, who confirms that the special Voyager lenses absorb 96.4% of the light and 96% of dangerous blue light. The sunglasses –which should only be used in space – are also more highly curved. "With its more highly curved lens, its wrap-around design, the eyewear is adapted more to the angle of the face and thus sits more closely to the eyes, which are then perfectly protected against the ingress of light from all sides," states Klaus Schmied, Co-owner and Director of Technology, Production and Development, describing the special space sunglasses.
