JOHN HARDY Fall 2012 Collection inspired by the glamorous bohemian chic of Marrakech which is a colorful journey through an exotic global city. Creative Director and Head Designer, Guy Bedarida was profoundly influenced by 1960s style icon and the original gypset queen, Talitha Getty, with her bright kaftans and silk harem pants accessorized with shimmering layers of exotic jewelry.
As the son of a French diplomat who spent his childhood in the region, Guy found inspiration in Talitha’s pioneering style and Morocco’s seductive beauty, from mesmerizing architectural details and starlit skies to vivid colors and sensual materials. Classic motifs are reinterpreted with an eye on the iconic prints, patterns and textures of Morocco. A jewel-toned color palette of deep indigo blues, spicy oranges, warm browns and milky white lends a sultry Middle Eastern feel.
The timeless quality of the Dot motif assumes a new richness with the introduction of elements evoking kaftan prints and the Zellige tiles prevalent in Moroccan architecture. 18-karat accents and deeply radiant stones embellish gently draping silver chainmail with a seductive quality. The rhythmic style of Bedeg is also present in the classical architecture of Morocco. Hand-carvings in silver or gold with faceted teardrop stones, suggest a sense of gypset glamour. A minimalist opulence is achieved with the high shine of the exterior surfaces and their ornate interior designs.
The journey continues for Naga during the global celebration of the Year of the Dragon. A John Hardy icon, the collection is infused with modernity and a renewed richness through sensuous drops of colored stones, the open handwork of the Naga scale motif and a sophisticated use of two-tone sterling silver and 18-karat gold accented with our signature Dot. Renowned for our Classic Chain motif, the use of fine Moroccan details and the new braided chain form bring a modern sensibility to this season’s collection. Diamond pavé and our distinctive lava setting are also featured in cast sterling silver. Soft and feminine with a sophisticated presence, each piece is designed to make a statement.
Authentic to our Balinese heritage, the Bamboo collection is reimagined in the character of the bamboo groves at Majorelle Gardens in Marrakech. Interlocking links of silver delicately accented with vibrantly faceted stones are also offered in gold. Symbolizing friendship and love, this iconic design is part of our Wear Bamboo, Plant Bamboo initiative. Hand-cut organic shapes evoke the Kali collection’s authentic pebble silhouette that flows and ripples like the river streams that inspire it. A polished finish in sterling silver lends a modern impression to this signature collection. Effortlessly chic, the Fall 2012 collection exudes a relaxed everyday glamor that is instantly recognizable by the stylish reimagining of John Hardy’s signature motifs such as Naga, Dot and Classic Chain.
