Novak Djokovic won the Australian Open against Rafael Nadal in the longest Grand Slam singles final ever. After an epic match that lasted five sets (5-7/6-4/6-2/6-7/7-5) and nearly 6 hours, Nole could finally lift the trophy. He overcame a break in the last set to win his fifth Grand Slam tournament and third in a row. Both players pushed themselves to the very limits of human exhaustion. This showdown offered suspense and excitement to the 15,000 spectators in the stands and millions of TV viewers. After a few hours’ sleep, Nole declared: "Under the circumstances, it was definitely the greatest match I’ve ever played".
With this victory he has consolidated his position as world number one and has started his season as well as in 2011. All eyes will now turn to Roland Garros where, as the title-holder of Wimbledon, the US Open and the Australian Open, Nole could become the first tennis player to win four Grand Slams on four different surfaces in a row. Audemars Piguet congratulates Nole on this great victory and wishes him good luck for the rest of the 2012 season.
