As part of the Hong Kong Cancer Fund's efforts to better their free cancer support services in the year ahead, the charity recently announced the expansion of the Rainbow Club - a service for children whose parents are diagnosed with cancer. The expansion of this family centered service is made possible due to generous sponsorship from Louis Vuitton Hong Kong, their first charity in Hong Kong.
The Rainbow Club services was officially launched at the end of 2012, it was delighted to address the needs of children aged 5 to 15 who are affected by a cancer diagnosis in the family. " The Rainbow Club came about due to a much needed gap in cancer support services in Hong Kong. Children, like adults, require special attention and support when cancer touches the family. The Rainbow Club is there to help address these needs."Said Sally Lo, Founder and Chief Executive of Hong Kong Cancer Fund.
Rainbow Club seeks to rebuild communication among family members, so that they can draw strength from each other and cope together. Specially trained care specialists explain cancer to the children using age appropriate information and give them a chance to express their feelings using different evidence-based therapies, such as art and play.
Louis Vuitton contributed HK$ 1 million to help lay a foundation for the creation of a service model and manual which will be based on expert advice from individuals and leading global institutes specializing in this area of children's services. Louis Vuitton is also committed to nurturing the development of young people around the world. This commitment with Hong Kong Cancer Fund is part of Louis Vuitton's global social responsibility initiatives which span from reinforcing educational efforts in SOS Children's Village worldwide, to promoting young artists through the Louis Vuitton Young Arts Project in London and encouraging creative development with School of The Arts in Singapore.
