In the context of the ninth Berlin Fashion Week, MCM presented a very special project: the MCM Satellite Store in Berlin. Joining MCM’s existing flagship store on Kurfürstendamm in Berlin’s Charlottenburg neighborhood, the new satellite store is its urban counterpart in the heart of Germany’s capital city. A limited-edition backpacks and collaboration pieces from the illus-trator Craig Redman, fashion guru Patricia Field and Phenomenon, the Japanese designer label were introduced. Along with the familiar Cognac Visetos material, the backpacks are styled in various colors, pat-terns and sizes. Special edition rabbit-shaped backpack for children is one unique model amongst the many. The back-packs’ status as art objects is reflected by their staging in the shop, where visitors are expected to find them hanging on the walls with respective brass plates description cards.
MCM MOMOTs, another art piece created with paper, also begins its expedition at the Berlin Satellite store. Three unique characters and seven backpacks have been created with great in-tricacy, breathing life into the ‘fun’, ‘adventurous’ and ‘young’ spirit of MCM. The interior atmosphere of the shop is kept minimal to further accentuate the displayed pieces, while the Appel Design Galerie, where MCM’s satellite store is located, reflects the theme of this event. The Appel Design Galerie in Berlin has displayed artworks including that of Italian archi-tect Carlo Monillo and George Nelson, the founder of American modernism. The new shop, which ideally complements MCM’s elegant flagship store in the western part of Berlin, invites a younger and more cosmopolitan group.
